I view these paintings, created over the past year, as layers of time, layers of moments. Produced mostly on the floor, the gouache and acrylic paints were watered down and poured onto an unprimed canvas. The borders of each color were allowed to run and seep to their desired shape and position with little or no assistance from my hand. By allowing the “randomness” of each pour to occur, I attempted to capture the fate and destiny of a single fleeting moment in time and space. Once dry, another pour was made in the same “random” manner. While allowing the chance occurrences to happen, my primary focus then became deciding where each “random” event would occur in relation to the previous events. By layering these moments, and adding some “cosmetic boosts,” I aimed to create harmonic constructions of time, color and movement that draw from the Dadaist’s practice of disassociation and the usage of chance.
