Barbara Bemis Adams
I have explored many art mediums through classes and working on my own since my early school days. Retired from teaching special education in Sandwich, MA, I am now making art full time.
Provincetown painter, Phil Malicoat, was a major influence and remains a touchstone in my work.
My inspiration comes from spending as much time as I can “seeing” the light, color and patterns of the natural world. I move back and forth between Cape Cod and north central Maine, where the changing of the seasons always intrigues and delights me.
I find pushing more and more toward abstraction both challenging and absorbing. I love using a palette knife to mix and scratch into oil, the rich colors of pastels, and the surprises of monotype printmaking. I often combine monotype and pastel.
Here are some examples of her work.
