ArtProv Gallery’s Opens “Fiber Works” Show July 14
Opening Reception: July 17, 5-9pm
ArtProv gallery, a contemporary gallery in the Jewelry District’s historic Doran Building at 150 Chestnut Street, announced today that its new exhibit, “Fiber Works,” will open July 14, 2014, and run through August 2, 2014. An opening reception will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on July 17th during Gallery Night.
“Fiber Works” will feature the textile works of four artists:
- Liz Alpert Fay, who creates hand-hooked rugs, some of which are purely explorations in color while others tell stories. She is also a mixed media sculptor that combines objects of inspiration found in nature with textiles to create 3D works of art.
- Michelle Sirois-Silver, whose textile designs imply the subjects rather than state them directly. Her works feature a variety of techniques – including hand hooking, screen print and stitch – and materials that inform one another layer upon layer.
- Mary Jane Andreozzi, who is inspired by the grace, strength, and beauty of the natural world. Her fiber pieces, made with a variety of textiles from hand dyed wool to recycled fabric, are created by a traditional textile technique passed down from generations of women who used old worn clothing cut into rags to create rugs.
- Judith Larzelere, an art quilt innovator whose signature style combines machine strip piecing and machine strip quilting, creates abstract works that emphasize color interaction and movement. They have great impact when viewed at a distance, and reveal detail and nuance upon closer inspection.
“I’m excited to display a collection of different mediums so viewers can explore art in another dimension and the color and creativity these textural pieces convey,” said ArtProv gallery co-owner Michele Aucoin.
ArtProv gallery will be open to the public on the following days during the Handweavers Guild of Americas Convergence in Providence: Monday, July 14 - Thursday, July 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors can also view the exhibit until August 2 by appointment.
