ArtProv Gallery, a contemporary gallery located in the Jewelry District’s historic Doran Building at 150 Chestnut Street, announced today that its newest exhibit, “Fashion Statements,” will open on April 20, 2016, and run through May 27, 2016. An opening reception will be held on Friday, April 22 from 5 – 9 p.m. The show will also be open during Gallery Night Providence on April 21 and May 19 from 5 – 9 p.m.
“Fashion Statements” will feature works of dresses, shoes and other fashion items in unique mediums and styles by artists Patricia Canney, Susan Freda, Holly Gaboriault, Larisa Martino, Kelly O’Neal, and Kyle Ragsdale.
Patricia Canney, who is intrigued by dresses, garments, shoes, objects of life as well as the spaces they inhabit, paints mostly garments, interiors, and still lifes
Susan Freda, an artist who creates works from handwoven wire and glass, their transparent and interconnected forms and jewel-like nature referencing nature, fashion, and other worldly phenomena
Holly Gaboriault, a RISD graduate and art director, illustrator, author and designer who blends history, storytelling and design inspired by the costumes and traditions of world culture and folktales and contemporary fashion
Larisa Martino, who uses acrylics, ink pen, oil pastels, color pencils, fabrics, and often a combination of the above, to create her works, many of which are representations of women: the feminine forms of emotions, moods, and characters
Kelly O’Neal, who views her paintings of shoes and dresses as portraits that evoke mystery about the person behind the scene, engaging the viewer’s own imagination
Kyle Ragsdale, whose work is a collection of symbols, inviting viewers to make their own interpretations and connections with the visual clues in the images
“The pieces in this exhibit are as beautiful as they are varied,” said Michele Aucoin, ArtProv Gallery co-owner. “Yet what unites them is the artists’ love of fashion icons.
